Holy Sepulchre |
At the rear of the aedicula we'll find a small Coptic Chapel which belongs to Egyptian
Christians. The copts follows the Monophysitic doctrine. This Church recognizes only the divine and not the human nature of Christ. We'll go back now to the aedicula of the Holy Sepulchre and right in front of it we'll see a beatuful Greek Choir, which stands on the site of the Kathilicon, or Choir of the Canons of the Holy Sepulchre of the crusaider period. The Greek Choir takes a central part of the Church. According to ancient tradition, the center of the world is located beneath the dome of the transept. As we pass by the Greek Choir we'll find a stairs leading down, where is located the Crypt of Saint Helena. This crypt is named after the mother of Constantine the Great and commemorates her efforts to find holy places which led to discovery of the True Cross and Jesus's tomb. |
