The Wailing Wall |
It is the Holiest thing to Jewish people to prayer at the Wailing Wall and also celebrating
many ceremonies such as Succoth (the Feast of the Tabernacles). The square in front of the Wall serves today as a synagogue, where religious observances may held. Private celebrations such as Bar Mitzvah are also made at the Wall. When the Jewish boy reaches the age of 13 he considered an adult and responsible to his own spirutal life and under obligation to observe fasts and any other rituals. For the first time in boys life he allowed to read from the Sefer Of Torah (That is the book of Law, containes first five books of the Old Testament). On the left side of the Wailing Wall we can see the Wilson's arch, named after english archeologist Charles Wilson, who discovered that arch in 1865. Beneath the structure we may see today is the original arch from the Herod's period. During the period of the Second Temple, it supported the bridge, which joined the High City with the buildings what is now the Haram esh-Sherif. |
